Matmonim is owned and operated by Orthodox Jews, and our program is designed for Jewish teens at all religious observance levels. Camp groups are divided based on age. The program offers Glatt Kosher food, strict Shabbat observance and daily davening. Campers are expected to observe Shabbat, kashrut and basic mitzvot as well as the Matmonim dress code. On Friday and Shabbat afternoons an exciting class is held for all campers which focuses on connecting our ancient history to current events.
Acceptance to Matmonim is based on an interview and references. We reserve the right to accept or reject any candidate based on our discretion. Matmonim has specific rules and policies, partially outlined in a handbook, which all participants must agree to adhere to before being accepted into the program. We reserve the right to remove any participant from the program who does not adhere to these policies. Drinking, smoking and/or illegal drugs have no place on Matmonim; neither does improper conduct between boys and girls.
Safety is our primary concern and always takes priority over all other considerations. We plan every hike, adventure and activity with our campers’ safety in mind. Our experienced counselors teach safety in every activity and work hard to develop a safety-conscious mindset among our campers. We have comprehensive procedures for all activities, and counselors undergo an extensive training program. Though each camper is challenged throughout the summer, the program never places campers in a scenario for which the camper is not mentally and/or physically prepared.
Every location in our program has been personally visited either by Joshua Weiss – Matmonim’s Executive Director, Julie Weiss – Matmonim’s Educational Director, or Turkish Travel. We do not take campers to dangerous locations.
Over the summer, parents are able to track the camp’s movements. Matmonim carries a GPS transmitter which will broadcast our location to a mapping program which parents are able to access through our secure website.
